On the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, **Victoria Falls** stands as one of the world's most magnificent natural wonders. Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, "The Smoke that Thunders," this UNESCO World Heritage Site sends a curtain of water plunging 108 meters into the Zambezi Gorge, creating a spray visible from kilometers away.

At 1,708 meters wide, Victoria Falls is recognized as the largest sheet of falling water on Earth. During peak flow season, the thunderous roar and rising mist can be felt long before the falls come into view, while a permanent rainbow often arcs across the gorge on sunny days.

Adventure seekers flock here for some of Africa's most thrilling activities, from white-water rafting through the Zambezi's Grade 5 rapids to bungee jumping off the historic Victoria Falls Bridge connecting the two countries. Calmer options include sunset cruises on the Zambezi and, during the dry season, swimming at the edge of Devil's Pool on the lip of the falls.

Surrounding national parks on both the Zambian and Zimbabwean sides are home to elephants, giraffes, and hippos, offering the chance to combine the falls with a classic African safari experience just steps from one of nature's most powerful displays.
